Jack the Ripper (OT)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the theory, advanced with
considerable panache by Patricia Cornwell in _Portrait of a Killer:
Jack the Ripper -- Case Closed_ (2002), that Jack was Walter
Richard Sickert (1860-1942), pupil of Whistler, portrait painter
and notable eccentric.

I haven't followed commentaries on Cornwell's book, but the
biography of Sickert in the new ODNB calls it a "fantasy."

I think that the following quote was part of the message that got all of
this off topic jazz started. I must confess that I was an abettor in the crime
of starting and continueing. I do so love a good argument.

"There are a few things I'd rather like to see, such as the full Jack the
Ripper
files and a certain incident that occured in Rendlesham Forest a few years
ago.
Anyone else have any ideas?"

Since the Ripper is really off topic why don't we argue about the other
"incident" mentioned in this message. The incident in Rendlesham Forest. Is
this a reference to the death of William Rufus?

That is on topic and far enough back that there can be little actual facts
known so we can argue opinion forever if we so desire.

Oh shoot, now Hines will really be on my case. Oh boy. Juicy argument
forever.

I decided to google Rendlesham Forest and discovered it referred to a UFO
crazyness. That is definitely not Medieval.

Let's argue abour the death/murder/accident of William Rufus in the New
Forest. Was he deliberately slain by minion of Henry, or was it a pure hunting
accident? And why did William Tirell scat and scadoodle out of the country?
Lots of excellent rumor here. And he was a great uncle of mine. No, I won't
delineate my descent, this is about William Rufus, not my glorious ancestry.

Actually Brice, she makes a very logical connection...
but no it is not absolute prove... but she spent over 4million dollars of
her money to prove that theory.
