Monasticon Anglicanum

List members may be interested to know that an important medieval resource,
William Dugdale's 'Monasticon Anglicanum: a History of the Abbies and other
Monasteries, Hospitals, Frieries, and Cathedral and Collegiate Churches,
with their Dependencies, in England and Wales' is now online at
http://monasticmatrix.usc.edu/bibliogra ... il&id=2659

The Monasticon is an 8 volume set which gives the history of most religious
house in England, and where available reproduces their foundation,
confirmation and charters of gift in Latin, accounts of their foundation and
their value at their dissolution.

There is one drawback with this site and that is some of the pdf files are
rather large and take some time to download. Chris Philips has been in touch
with Professor Lisa Bitel who is responsible for the Matrix site and she
says that this will be addressed once they have more funding.

In the meantime in line with the stated aim "to collect and make available
all existing data about all professional Christian women in Europe between
400 and 1600" (http://monasticmatrix.usc.edu/dematrice), she would welcome
suggestions for what people would like to see online in the way of
cartularies, commentaries etc. So if anyone has a particular wishlist please
make suggestions or get in touch with her at bitel@usc.edu.

Cheers

Rosie
