Finetti (Venice)

The citizen family of Finetti moved to Venice from Ferrara in the 14th
century. But some say they were originally from Monte Lupo in the Mark
of Ancona.
The Finetti divided in many branches. One of them, since the 16th
century, possessed properties in the parish of Santa Sofia, according
to the note to the "X Savii" (Council of Ten) in the "Redecima"
(extraordinary tax) of 1514, and the "Iscrizioni Sepolcrali" edited by
Fr. Rocco Curti (Classe XIV, codici 103, 104, Marciana Library). In
both texts appears a certain "M. Francesco Finetti" of S. Sofia, who
was buried in 1555 in the church of S. Stefano Protomartire, in an arc
with a lion, arms of the family. This coat of arms is the same that
with the motto "Dominus custodiat introitum et exitum" can be found at
the entrance of the "Ramo Finetta" (F. Street) at S. Sofia, where the
Finetti, had many properties, even in 1661.
Another branch of the Finetti was famous in Venice for its lawyers of
fame.
