The Diedo family came from Altino to Venice in 790. Since the 14th
century at least they lived in the parish of S. Fosca.
Antonio D. in 1431 distinguised himself in the war against Genoa and
in the defense of Costantinople.
Luigi D. in 1453 after the fall of the Imperial city, conducted the
Venetian galleys safely.
Vittore D., son of Luigi, was taken prisoner in 1453 and kept as a
hostage of the Turks, and in 1480 obtained from the Sultan permission
to visit his family in Venice, where he died of happiness.
Pietro D., another son of Luigi, was procurator in 1482 of the Army of
Romagna that favoured Sixtus IV; he defeated the duke of Calabria in a
famous just.
There were many other Diedos of importance: captains, writers,
(bishops) bishops and an architect, Antonio.
In 1622 during a party at Ca' Diedo at S. Fosca, Giacomo Barbaro and
Girolamo Donà were murdered in a famous case.
The Diedos had their most important palace in the parish of S. Fosca,
designed by Andrea Tirali.
