Digby question

Legg inn av Leo van de Pas » 12 aug 2004 02:49:32

Gerald Paget, in his work on the ancestors of HRH Prince Charles, records (N15381) Libeaus Digby, of Coates as son of Everard Digby, of Tilton, and Jacquetta Ellis.

I have been corrected, but was only told that these were not his parents. This Everard could have been his brother, as Everard's father did have a son named Libeaus. However, this is no proof, only an indication as there is no record that "the other" Libeaus/Libbeus was of Coates.

There are no dates given for Libeaus, nor his son Thomas, nor his granddaughter Anne who married John Burton. Can anyone add details to these ancestors of Prince Charles?
Many thanks.

I've seen a lot of Digbys mentioned in various posts here, and never
paid much attention. Does anyone know offhand the line and connections
of Kenelm Digby, author of that bizarre and enormous Victorian tract on
the pseudo-history of chivalry, _The Broad Stone of Honour_?

Never mind. Able to answer my question with a minute of google. The
line:

Sir Robert Dibgy of Coleshill (d. 1614) = Letice FitzGerald, Lady Offaly
[also parents of Robert, 1st Baron Digby]
Rev. Essex Digby, Bishop of Dromore = Thomasine Gilbert (or Letice
Brereton?)
Rev. Simon Digby, Bishop of Elphin = Elizabeth Westenra
Rev. William Digby, Dean of Clonfert = ???
Kenelm Henry Digby (author) = ???
....

Leo's site connects these up further.
