I reposted the reply I sent to Tony, so the rest can see it. With any luck,
I should not have any more internet probs.....unless another ship drops an
anchor on the cables again...

While you email answered a few questions, it raised just as many. The
Visitation of Essex 1612 (Poyntz pedigree, page 268) has Nicholas, brother to Hugh
that died 1337, as having a son Nicholas that died 1372. This Nicholas they
show having the Pontius Poyntz you mention, and and Edward. So far, so good.
However, the 1369 Bristol record you posted shows a WILLIAM Poyntz. WHERE does
he fit in? Neither Gloucester 1623 nor the Essex 1612 Visitations (Poyntz
pedigree) show a William anywhere in the tree, and both start in the early
1200's I think.
Next, in the Berkeley castle muniments BCM/A/2/45/1, there is a Nicholas
Poynts, son of Puncius de la Launde Pennine. Who is this Puncius? It sounds like
a location in France.
Is the Nicholas that died in 1372, a son of the Nicholas Poyntz, rector at
St Wrburgh, Hoo? Is there a general concensus on when Pontius, son of the 1372
Nicholas, was born?
I will be trying to find and search the Dorset Visitation, as a few Poyntz
went there.
BTW, I did a search for Nicholas Poyntz in the Calendar of Patent Rolls, for
Edward III time frame (1327-1377), and found close to a dozen entries for a
Nicholas Poyntz "chivaler", and at one time knight. Most of the time it was
documenting where he was being accused of outlawry, but pardoned. IF it is all
the same man, he "exchanged" the manor of Hoo, for the manors of Brodeweye
and Estelleworth in Dorset, and sold off part of Curry Malet. I need to
organize the data on the PR's before I post anything.

Lastly, while the Patent rolls are online, up to 1460, I think, do you or
anyone else know of any other Medieval series online, such as Close Rolls,
IPM's, etc?

Ken
