Hikaru made a post on the Senior Mallory line and stated that "Soon
after his
wife died in childbirth with her 17th child, Sir Richard married
Elizabeth Pakington, the step-daughter of Sir Michael Dormer, a former
Lord Mayor of London and a great granddaughter of an illegitimate
sister of King Edward IV's wife, thus a third cousin of Queen
Elizabeth I who treated Elizabeth Pakington's family, especially its
male members, whom she found stimulating to be around, as extended
family. Richard and Elizabeth had a son who died as a small child and
a daughter who was well provided for financially but was still not
married close to 40 years after her father's death in 1566."

Looking at Elizabeth Pakington's ancestry I see that the online
resource Tudorplace calls the wife of William Dormer of West Wycombe
Agnes Woodville but does not include any ancestry for her. Leo van de
Pas' execellent website calls her Agnes Launcelyn daughter of John
Launcelyn and Maud Stanley based on Burke and Paget.

Hikaru responded that he thought the information calling her a
daughter of the first Earl Rivers came from a Visitation of Bucks.

Testamenta Vetusta, p 474.

His will was dated 22 Sep 1506 and proved 7 Oct 1506. His will refers
to his wife Agnes and his daughters, Joan Aldburgh, Margery wife of
Thomas Deane, Agnes wife of Wiliam Baldwin, and to his son Robert.

The editor calls his wife Agnes daughter of Sir John Launcelyn, a
French knight and includes a twice-,married daughter Bridget.

The will also mentions a Lettice Dormer but does not specify a
relationship.

Does anyone know of any documentation that the wife of William Dormer
of West Wycombe (d bef 22 sep 1508) was the illegitimate daughter of
Richard Woodville, First Earl Rivers?

The Visitation of Buckinghamshire 1634 pages 42/3, Dormer of Shipton
Lee, shows William Dormer of Wickcombe Bucks (son of Geffrey Dormer
and Ursula Cailridg) married to Jane daughter of Sir John Lancellyn,
Knight. One of his brothers was shown as Sir Michael Dormer Lord Mayor
of London, and William's children are listed as Margery (Dean) 1st
dau; ....dau no. 2 wife of Sir John Baldwine, Chief Justice B.Rs.; Sir
Robert Dormer marr to Jane Newdigate; ....3rd dau married to ...Bromwell;
.....4th dau marr to...Brittain.

Clearly the same William Dormer whose will is in Testamenta Vetusta,
although details of the children in the visitation are at variance
with the will. But no sign of a wife named Agnes.
