Anne Huddleston / Thomas Carus

Here
http://books.google.com/books?id=tgkNAA ... #PPA168,M1

we see the Will of Ann Preston, widow of Thomas Preston of the Manor
in Furness, co Lanc. Esq
The Will is dated 27 Nov 1605 and was proved 24 Apr 1607

Some of the references she makes are confusing as she calls brothers-
in-law brothers and sisters-in-law sisters and so on, and names a lot
of "cousins".

But I feel.... like see just might be Anne Huddleston, previously
married to Thomas Carus of Quernmore Park

Can anyone give me a yeah baby on that? I'm not really sure just yet,
still searching for that final proof.

Thank you Will for your excellent post.
This family has more problems to solve.

Back in Feb 2006, Brad Verity posted here a descent from E3 to Anne
(Huddleston) Carus, wife of Thomas Carus, and alledgedly dau and
heiress of Miles Huddleston, son of Brian Huddleston.

Brad there called the Huddleston property "Westhall" but we have seen
(A2A document DDX 255) that the manor of Whityngton was also called
Westhall. There is a document of general livery vesting the Manor in
Thomas Carus and Anne his wife dated 8 May 1594

From this union the line runs forward as follows
Elizabeth Carus m Nicholas Curwen, Esq of Stainburne (d 1604)
Mary Curwen "third daughter of Nicholas, 2nd of Elizabeth" m Sir Henry
Widdrington (living 12 Sep 1623)

Margaret Widdrington m Edward Gray of Bitchfield (nice place to visit,
wouldn't want to live there)

At this point, the Ancestral File claims that Margaret was born in
1591, that date I believe is fallacious.

For the following reason.

We already know that some Miles of Whittington, was the son of some
Brian of Whittington. In fact we have a reference that Richard
granted the Manor of Whittington to his grandson Miles in 1553, so we
know Miles was at least alive.

I had made the *mistaken* assumption that Miles was already then in
his majority.
However, conflating that, we have the evidence of the WILL of Thomas
Stanley, 2nd Lord Monteagle dated 28 Jul 1558 (he died 25 Aug 1560 at
Hornby Castle).

In his will, Thomas Stanley states quite usefully that he is granting
the "marriage and wardship of Miles Huddleston, son of Brian
Huddleston, late of Whittington deceased" to his then wife Ellen
(Preston).

This tells us that Miles was still a minor Jul 1558
