Yes, Alan is quite correct here.

The idiom comes from The Bible, Matthew 7:6:

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls
before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and
rend you." -- in the KJV.

_Casting Pearls Before Swine_ is the very core concept of USENET -- its
essential essence and current foundational logic.

In fact, what I'm doing right here in this post is casting pearls before
swine. <g>
