Baillie, of Lamington

At the moment I have recorded

Sir William Baillie, of Lamington, married to two unknown wives, and having a son William by each.
William, of Lamington, by the first wife marred before September 1560 Margaret Maxwell, Dowager Countess of Angus (she died about 1593)
William. of Letham, by the second wife, married Janet Bruce, and had at least two sons.

The above is wrong.

In DNB I found that the first son William is really the father, as William Baillie of Letham, was born during the time his father was married Margaret Maxwell, Countess of Angus. This tells that William of Letham was born before 1593. His parents did marry after the death of Margaret Maxwell, but this did not make him his father's heir (born in adultery) and it was Margaret Baillie, daughter of Sir William Baillie and Margaret Maxwell, who inherited the Lamington estate.

Sir William Baillie, of Letham, married Janet Bruce, daughter of Sir William Bruce and granddaughter of John Baillie, of Letham. And DNB tells that his Letham estate came from his wife.

Does anyone know more about the first Sir William Baillie, of Lamington? His daughter Margaret, by the first wife Margaret Maxwell, was "the eldest daughter" who were the other daughters and were any of them married? Where did the Lamington estates go?

Sir William Baillie, of Letham, dates about him are elusive, he must have been born before 1593, he became a general, he is recorded as involved, 11 August 1648, with the disaster at Preston "and there is no record of the day or year of his death".

Can anyone add more to this?
With many thanks.

Sir William Baillie of Lamington was son of Sir William, Master of the
Wardrobe to Queen Mary. He married Margaret daughter of Robert Lord
Maxwell and widow of the Earl of Angus. He had a natural son, General
William Baillie of Lethame by a daughter of Sir Alexander Home of
North Berwick, whom he married after his wife's death in 1594 (Test 15
May). General Baillie's two sons, James and William were successive
Lords Forrester (qv). His legitimate daughters and heiresses were
married, the elder Margaret to Edward Maxwell, Commendator of
Dundrennan, and the younger Abigail to Sir Hugh Carmichael of that Ilk
(qv). Edward Maxwell had the whole estate of Lamington under the
marriage contract of 20 & 26 February 1577 and was required by
Parliament to change his name to Baillie, although this was only
achieved in the next generation, as he died on 29 September 1596. His
widow, Margaret Baillie married secondly Sir William Livingstone of
Culter, son of 5th Lord Livingdtone; she died before 26 March 1607
and he 2 May of the same year at Dundrennan.
