From Gavin Newsom to Colonial Connecticut

Legg inn av wjhonson » 09 nov 2007 07:58:33

Today I worked on the pedigree of Gavin Newsom, the current Mayor of
San Francisco. What I have so far is here
http://www.countyhistorian.com/cecilweb ... vin_Newsom

At the bottom you can see one purported ascent from him back to the
Moses, Gunn, Thrall colonists in CT. I haven't yet filled in all the
data, but perhaps some of you can now claim (on this sketchy basis at
least) a kinship with him.

Who would WANT to be related to him?

Use of English:

Emigrate - to travel out of (a country)
Immigrate - to travel into (a country)

Thus, one could be an immigrant from .. or an emigrant to ..

No need to be apologetic and falsely modest simply about being correct.

There is nothing wrong with the Moses, Gunn and Thrall families of
early Connecticut, but medieval is not an adjective to describe them.
If you change it, you can get a medieval line, provided the Moses
information is correct.

1 Maud Victoria Waithman 1888- + Kenneth Menzies
2 Hubet W Waithman 1859-91 + Grace Gertrude Winton
3 Nelson Winton + Catherine Augusta Crane 1840-
4 Addison Moses Crane 1814-89 + Gertrude Ashley 1820-
5 Henry Crane 1784-1876 + Amarilla Hannah Moses 1789-1866
6 Elisha Moses 1761 + Hannah Merrill
7 Elisha Moses 1736-1808 + Mercy Barber
8 Timothy Moses 1706-1751 + Sarah Phelps d 1751

EDWARD GRISWOLD of Killingworth, Connecticut. His parentage is given

as George and Dousabel (Leigh) Griswold, but nothing further is
known. Best research: The Griswold Family: The first Five Generations
in America by Esther G. French and Robert L. French (Griswold Family
Association, Wethersfield, CT); and Mary Walton Ferris, Dawes-Gates
Ancestral Lines (n.p. 1931, 1943).

It seems I share the Spencers of Lynn, Mass, and Connecticut with GN.
But doesn't he have the reputation of being a douchebag? I remember
reading something about him having an affair with his secretary ... or
something. I guess that is actually fairly tame for San Francisco (it
was a female secretary, I think).

Yes he had an affair with a woman whom both her and her husband worked
for him I believe. Then he stated that he had an alcohol problem and
went to rehab or something. But on the flip side he has an approval
rating of something like 70% which probably is making him the envy of
G.W. Jr right about now. San Francisco is not known for nice
politics, in fact, its known for pretty much in-your-face fights, so
for a mayor to achieve that sort of rating says something. He is
running for his second term, essentially unopposed, and I don't think
I'd be alone to say he has a long political career ahead.
