In July 2005, John Brandon noted that Richard Ive was married to
Elizabeth Agmondesham. Richard Ive's IPM is now available via google
books at http://books.google.com/books?id=AxkHAA ... ard+ive%22.
This shows that he calls his brother Agmondesham and names his son and
heir Thomas (aged 23 or more), daughter Margaret, and youngest
daughter Rose, who married Lawrence Stoughton. Ive's death is given
as 8 February 1558/9. If Elizabeth Agmondesham was his only wife, we
can estimate the birth of son Thomas as about 1535, their marriage in
1534 and their births about 1510. However, Thomas may be from an
earlier marriage. They were residents of the parish of St. Dunstan's
in the East, London.

Martin,
Forgive my potential ignorance, but the IPM states Thomas' age as "23
years and more" not "or more". Looking at other IPMs it lists ages of
heirs in a similar way (e.g. "33 years and more", "25 years and more",
"12 years and 11 months"). I read this as his age being more than 23
years but less than 24 years. Is this an incorrect interpretation? If
not, can we not now say Thomas' birth year was 1535?

I didn't. I said about 1535. In genealogical parlance about means
give or take a couple of years. Different people use the terms in
specific ways. About means you have an age or some specific number by
which you are doing the calculation. Say means you are working off a
strict hypothetical. So, we have an approximate age of Thomas, so he
was about 1535. His parents were married say 1534 (assuming he's the
first born) and their births are say 1510 (based on the average of
being in their early 20s).
