Wife of Wilfred, Count of Barcelona

Hello Newsgroup,

I have been searching for the parents of Winilda (Gundhilda), wife of
Wilfred I, Count of Barcelona (died 897).

ES gives her name, but not her parents.

Moriarity offers only a name and dates.

Alison Weir (Britain's Royal Families) states that she was the daughter of
Baldwin I, Count of Flanders, and Judith of France (daughter of Charles the
Bald).

GoogleBooks has turned up a book called The Queens Before the Conquest (by a
Mrs. Matthew Hall) that agrees with Alison Weir.

Is there a more solid source that give her lineage, or is it truly
uncertain?

Thank you.

No, her parentage is unknown. The 'Deeds of the Count of Barcelona', a
genealogical chronicle first drafted in the 1160s, presents a
romanticized story of Guifred impregnating, then taking to wife the
daughter of an unnamed count of Flanders (while he was in exile there),
but there is no contemporary evidence of any kind.

.. . .

No, her parentage is unknown. . . .

While we are at it, it should perhaps be pointed out that this is
likewise the case for the wives of his successors, with the wife of
Raimond Borel being the first whose wife has a documented pedigree.
Anything you see on the earlier ones is speculation.
