Copinger's Manors of Suffolk online volumes

Listers,

I'm sure most here probably know this already, but recent discussions of visitations got me looking for other difficult to find items.

I discovered digitized copies of Walter Copinger's Manors of Suffolk (v1, v2, v3, v5, v6, v7). As well, I was not aware he had written a County of Suffolk series, as well and some of these are posted too.

Thank you John Watson!

Take care,

This is interesting to me. My ancestor, Lionel Chute, was said to be
from Wrentham, Suffolk. In volume 2, p. 217, sub Wrentham, Coppinger
says, "The Earl in 1567sold the lordship to Arthur Chute or Choute,
who sold it in 1577 to Humphrey Brewster." Vol. 2, p. 67, sub
Frostenden (which is the place Lionel Chute the elder married his wife
Susan ...), mentions "a deed by Anne of Cleves appointing Philip
Chewte to be Bailiff of the lordship."

Seems like the name could also be "Shute" as in
Robert Shute, Baron of the Exchequer

That spelling was pretty rare for this particular family (Kent and
Suffolk). The most common spellings I've encountered are Chute,
Cheute, Chewte, Chewtt, Chowte, and Chowtt.
