The Identification of ? Welby the wife of Robert Thorold of

I had previously published the list of children for William Welby, K.B. (in 1603) of Gedney, Lincs by his wife Susan FitzWilliam (see http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch C028501)

William Welby died in 1616 "aged 57".

Today by the mysterious workings of Serindipity, I, in a multi-step process, found firstly this marriage license:

Kent: Canterbury - Marriage Licence allegations, Dean of Westminster, 1558-1699 and Vicar-General of the Archbishop of Canterbury, 1660 to 1679
Marriage Licences Issued by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster.
1635.
County: Kent
Country: England
27 Apr 1635 Robert Thorold, Gent., & Anne Welby, of City of Westminster, Spr.

However with no ages, and no parents, it's almost impossible to tell *which* Anne Welby (I have several) to which this might refer.

Earlier today, Leo (aka that instrument of Satan), sent me off on a very long goose chase tracking the ancestors of Charles Rolls founder of Rolls Royce. I posted on a distant aunt of his which led me, by a circuitous route into tracking the Thorold family.

Long story longer, this led me to Lincolnshire Pedigrees by A R Maddison who has a good writeup on the both the Thorold of Harmston AND the Thorold of Hough-on-the-Hill on Google Books here
http://books.google.com/books?id=IPcMAA ... #PPA978,M1

WHERE
at the bottom of page 979, keeping in mind the date of the license I posted above (27 Apr 1635) we see the following : "Robert Thorold of GEDNEY [emphasis mine] = Mary, dau of Sir William Welby, KB of Gedney; mar lic 27 April 1635"

So. Mary Welby is Anne Welby and Anne Welby we already know was baptised (as Anna) at Gedney on 16 Sep 1604.

Another one bites the dust. Some ancestors are awfully sneaky.
