Dear Listers ,
On the 11th of July 15 Richard II, Lucy de Kendale,
widow of Richard de Kendale complained that William Comyn, Giles Prideaux
the younger and John deDerkeshale acting on orders from William de Bonville
had broken into her close of Kendale and had ravished it and had further broken
into the House of the Brothers Preachers in Exeter, Devon and abducted from
there her son-in-law Thomas II, son and heir of Thomas I de Bittlesgate of
Knightseton which Richard , her late husband had bought his wardship and
marriage after Thomas de Bittlesgate I had died and married Thomas Bittlesgate II to
their daughter Alice de Kendale. They were still holding him, had entered
his lands and taken his rents and profits. Lucy feared ravishment and fled to
London. (source :Ancient Petitions SC 8/240/11966) Lucy seems to have had
problems getting a writ served againest them. Another Document of abt 1390 (SC
8/322/15799 )dated about 1390 shows Lucy, widow of Richard Kendale married to
a William Hunt , who together with a certain Nicholas Varell , Serjant at Arms
apparently trespassed in some Royal manors. These Documents , if the Lucy
de Kendale, widow of Richard is the same in both pare the death date of Thomas
de Bittlesgate I of Knightseton to 1388-1390.
Sincerely,

James W Cummings
