Good!

Leo does an about face and to the rear march on this issue -- as he should.

Especially after this slap-down idiocy...

You have dodged this long enough, especially the Edward III story,
you would make your name, DR re-writes History. All the honour
would be well deserved. -- Leo van de Pas

In addition to not having read Ormrod, Leo had not even read Chris
Given-Wilson and Alice Curteis.

Leo could have run this one to ground HIMSELF -- long ago -- instead of just
berating Douglas Richardson.

Richardson did not provide me with the article, but someone else did.
Having read it, I find it compelling and have changed my records and after
the next update, Edward III will have a bastard son, John Southeray (not
de Surrey). In combination with what The Oxford Illustrated history of the
British Monarchy recorded, I see no contradictions.

Dear Leo ~

I suggest you find and read the interesting article by the medieval
historian, Mark Ormrod, which appeared in recent time in Chaucer
Review, 40 (2006): 219-229. In the article, Mr. Ormrod states his
belief that King Edward III of England was the father of his mistress,
Alice Perrers' son, John de Surrey. The same view was expressed in
the book, Royal Bastards of Medieval England, by Chris Given-Wilson
and Alice Curteis, published in 1984, pages 136-142. I concur with
findings of both Mr. Ormrod and Given-Wilson/Curteis.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
