Links from Prince William to Michael Taronites

Legg inn av Gjest » 23 sep 2007 07:18:02

I know there are links from Prince William (of England) back to Michael
Taronites, who provides a gateway to the place (kingdom?) of Taron.

How many such links are there, and specifically which links, if any, are
*in* England prior to 1600.

I have a feeling that probably the answer is none.

I've found that one disposed link goes through Thomas Bardolf wife Agnes
*only if* she is the daughter of William Grandison. CP XIV says its unlikely
that she is.

That link would have been great, as they are ancestors of mine as well. But
are there any other pathways from William to Michael that stay in England
for a while?

Thanks
Will Johnson

Dear Will,

A probable answer to the question of whether Sir William de
Grandison was father of Agnes (wife of Sir William Bardolf) is no.
I'm not sure if the same evidence is cited in CP XIV, but there is
record in the Calendar of Patent Rolls of the following licence, dated
at Westminster, 21 Jan 1331/2:

' Licence for William de Grauntsone and Sibyl his wife to grant to
Agnes de Northwode, their daughter, the manor of Lydeyerd, co. Wilts.,
said to be held in chief, to hold for life by the rent of a rose and
the services due to the king. ' [CPR 5 Edw III, Pt III, mem. 1, p.
234]

This Agnes was mother of Roger, 2nd Lord Northwode, and not a
candidate for a simultaneous non-Northwode marriage to Bardolf. The
possibility that Agnes, wife of Wm Bardolf was a niece of William de
Grandison is interesting, but conjectural.

Cheers,

John
