In http://books.google.com/books?id=nDgGAA ... M1#PPA6,M1
"Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological and Natural History Society", Vol VI 1883. Shrewsbury: Adnitt and Naunton
"Donington Church", page 6

We see the author there, give as wife to Thomas Fowke of Brewood (son of Roger), one Mary Ferrers who he says is daughter of Henry Ferrers of Badesley. He then goes on to state that this is *that* Henry Ferrers of Badesley who is known to have married Bridget Willoughby.

But the author errs. It's interesting that a reading of his own article didn't show him the error because it's there in the chronology.

Ferrers Fowke the son of Thomas Fowke and Mary Ferrers has a monument at Donington Church to two of his own *daughters* who died as infants in 1650 and 1653. However the author of this article states that Mary is the daughter of that Henry Ferrers who was born Oct 1617.

Plainly this can be seen to not fit. In fact the marriage settlement of that Henry Ferrers to Bridget Willoughby is dated 14 Sep 1639. They cannot be *grandparents* to anyone dying in 1650.

Assuming the possibility that the author does err by the mistake of attaching Mary to the wrong Henry of Badisley, we look upstream and find another such Henry, grandfather of the prior one. This Henry Ferrers of Badisley married Jane White at the end of 1582 and she died 7 Sep 1586.

So Mary, if she indeed fits here has to be born from 1583 to 1586.

Casting Ferrers Fowke into the IGI we get one baptised 29 Mar 1613 at Brewood, Stafford which is the expected place; and with the added bonus that his father is there named Thomas.

Ferrers has an M.I. at Norton where he claims to be the eldest son. So we can prove his recollection. The baptisms from the parish register are extracted and on the IGI (http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch P010141).
We can also test the idea that per this article Ferrers was succeeded by his next brother Thomas.
The mother is never named in these baptisms, but we can use the working hypothesis that she is indeed Mary Ferrers to see if the chronology fits. We see, all at Brewood:
Mary /Fowke/ 1 Mar 1612
Ferrers /Fowke/ 29 Mar 1613
Thomas /Fowke/ 26 Mar 1614
John /Fowke/ 22 Sep 1616
Roger /Fowke/ 23 Oct 1617
Walter /Fowke/ 4 Jul 1619
Joan /Fowke/ 3 May 1621
Edward /Fowke/ 21 Aug 1623
William /Fowke/ 8 Jun 1626

The children come fast and thick, we should expect the marriage took place in 1610 or 1611.

IF I have selected the proper Mary Ferrers and her father, then Mary would have had her first child at age 25 to 29 and her last child at age 36 to 40.

I do not yet know whether Mary or Thomas outlived the other. But at least it seems I have correctly placed Mary (Ferrers) Fowke.
