For any one interested in individuals living in
Cheshire early 1300s, the Account of William de Melton
Chamberlain of Chester offers a wealth of information
reflecting life at that time.

What is fascinating is the detail addressing both
Receipts and Expences:

Receipts include Farms or Rents Certain, The Earl's
Demesnes Let to Farm, Wards or Custodies in the Earl's
Hand, Wards Let to Farm, Reliefs, Pannage of the
Forest, Escapes, Wines of Prisage Sold, Fines,
Amercements, Custody and Marriage Sold.

Also Foreign Receipts and Foreign Expences.

Expences and Deliveries include Ancient and Fixed
Alms, Fees and Wages, Work done in Chester Castle,
Beeston Castle, and Manor of Macclesfeld, Payments for
Wines of Prisage, Certain Necessary Expences, and
Wages of Welsh Hostages.

Possibly 1500 to 2000 or more individuals are named in
this Account - a great source of families living at
that time.
