Washington of Washington and their Tempest and Mallory heirs

Capt. Roger Mallory (say 1638-1695/7), English emigrant to Virginia by
1660, has many American descendants (several of us here in this forum.)
Interestingly, his heraldic achievement includes Washington of
Washington, Co. Durham among his quarterings. Capt. Roger Mallory was a
great grandson of Sir William Mallory (1530-1603) of Studley Royal and
Hutton Conyers, Yorkshire, and (a moiety of) Washington, Co. Durham.
This portion of the Washington estate remained in the senior Mallory
line till it was alienated by Sir John Mallory in the first decades of
the 17th century, and had come to Sir William Mallory as a
representative of his ancestress Eleanor (Washington), Lady Tempest
(died 1451). Eleanor (Washington) Tempest has been described as "only
daughter and heiress" of Sir William Washington, of Washington, Co.
Durham by his wife Margaret Morville. [_Gens. Of Virginia Families_, vol
4, p. 251].

Leo's great site however shows Sir William and Margaret (Morville)
Washington as having had a son Robert, agnate ancestor of President
George Washington. As their son, Robert would have been heir. No mention
is made here of the daughter Eleanor, later heiress, and wife of Sir
William Tempest. Leo does shows another Sir William Washington, without
dates or detail, as father of Alianore/Eleanor Washington, ancestress of
the Mallorys.

To the best of my knowledge, not since George S.H.L. Washington's _The
Earliest Washingtons and their Anglo-Scottish Connexions_ (Cambridge,
England [privately printed for the author], 1964) has much been
published on the Washingtons of Washington. Information would be most
gratefully received.

Thanks.

Tony
