County of Flanders

ES Isenburg Volume II Tafel 9
Here we start with Baudouin I, died 879; Graf von Flandern 858; 862 married Judith de France

ES Schwennicke Volume II Tafel 5
Here we have the same information, except it omits 858 as the year he became Count of Flanders.

I have found a description that seems to alter this a bit.

"He was the son of the forester Inghelram. He rose to prominence when in January 862 he eloped with Judith de France. After Judith's father accepted the marriage _after the marriage_ made him Count of Ghent. In the following years Baudouin was also given the counties of Ternois and Flanders"

And so the question emerges, when did he become the first Count of Flanders?

With many thanks.

We don't know for certain that Baudouin I did become count of Flanders - for
more information about him see Stewart Baldwin's Henry Project page at
