Counting Descendants

Legg inn av Leo van de Pas » 29 aug 2007 14:14:15

In about 754 or 755 St. Boniface was murdered in Dokkum, a small place in Friesland.

Peter Stuyvesant was born in 1602, his father (guessing) was born say 1575, and _his_ father about 1540/1550.

The grandfather of Peter Stuyvesant, Johannes Stuyvesant lived in Dokkum. Dokkum small as it might be, is a pretty old place.

I had only very little on the Stuyvesant family but then the unconnected parts began to fall into place and I made a file. I did not count how many descendants were in that file, and I have not kept it. My guess is that there were about 100 people recorded (plus spouses and in-laws).

Then I received one huge file as well as an indication where I could find even more information. The last few days I have been flat out entering those details. There are still many more descendants I could enter and even more I do not know about.

At the moment Johannes Stuyvesant has in my system some 1052 descendants spread over 15 generations. But now come the interesting figures.

Peter Stuyvesant has only 244 descendants in my system, his sister Anne has 1039. Of the 244 of Peter 14 are only _his_ descendants, the other 230 are also descendants of Anne. I think there are at least six marriages between descendants of this brother and sister.

Descendants belonging to the nobility living in England start already in the 6th generation, the continental ones come later. Further down the generations, connections with people from Iran, Zimbabwe and Kenya emerge, there is even one family living in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

For Peter Stuyvesant I have marked off two "interesting descendants" but these also descend from Anne Stuyvesant and she has several more. There is a link with author Ted Morgan, even Errol Flynn has a look in and so does Brooke Shields' father.

Interesting family names (there are many more) Aldrich, von Arnim,. Bayard, Bertie, Chanler, Crommelin, Fish, Fitzalan-Howard, Gage, Jay, du Pont, Roosevelt, Spencer-Churchill, von Trott zu Solz, Vanderbilt, Verplanck and Winthrop.

At the moment I am hoping to find a link to the Danish aristocratic family von Bertouch. In 1847 a Stuyvesant descendant married a von Bertouch and this family still exists and I can find details about the present day family but so far I have been unable to link them.

Another problem is Admiral James Noble, he lived from 1774 to 1851, he married three times but I cannot find the names of any of these three wives.

Then there is one other problem to solve and then I will be able to replace the files I have sent.

With best wishes

Hilarious!

Leo, FINALLY admits -- although by the back door -- that SPOUSES, as in Kirk
Douglas -- are NOT Stuyvesant Descendants.

Too Late Smart...
