Sargent, Bath? to Massachusetts

Legg inn av pj.evans » 29 aug 2007 03:08:23

I have this set of people in my sister-in-law's line, and I'd like to
know how wildly wrong it is:
1. Charles Sargent (b 31 Jan 1673/74 in Amesbury, Mass)
2. William Sargent (b 2 Jan 1645/46 Salisbury, Mass; d 31 May 1712
Amesbury, Mass; m Mary Colby)
3. William Sargent (b 28 Jun 1606 Bath, Somerset; d Mar 1674/75
Salem, Mass; m Elizabeth Perkins)
4. Richard Sargent (b abt 1576 Bath, Somerset; m Katherine Stevens)

I've seen claims that this is the same Sargent family as Rev. William
Sargent, but I can't tell from here whether that's even reasonable,
let alone true.

William Sargent of Charlestown, Mass. was from co. Northampton
(not Oxfordshire), according to an item in Aspinwall's notarial
records.

He is a different person than William Sargent, who married Elizabeth
Perkins. This William is of unknown ancestry - see the Great Migration
Begins & Holman's Pillsbury Ancestry.

William Sargent (m. Elizabeth Perkins) is not the same as Rev. William
Sargent of Northants & Barnstaple, MA, who is grandson of Hugh Sargent
and Margaret Gifford, the couple written about by Moriarity in the
NEGHR.
