Unfortunately my previous message was capable of leading to the
conclusion
that the book is now available, and several have already drawn that
conclusion.
I'm afraid it will be awhile yet. To clear up the confusion I am copying
below
my message posted on genealogy marketplace, with only the price of the
book
omitted.

Subject: Forthcoming book -- Clagett and ancestry for 20
generations

To be published in 2008: Seven Centuries: Ancestors for 20 Generations
of John Brice
de Treville Clagett and Ann Calvert Brooke Clagett, by Brice McAdoo
Clagett. 2 or 3
volumes, approx. 2,000 pages. In ancestor-list form, but including
extensive biography. About 7,500 ancestors in all (not counting
repetitions) have been found,
including 1,600 in the 20th generation (mostly in the 14th century).
Beyond the ancestor-
list, there is considerable information about earlier lines and some
collaterals.

In order to establish the size of the press run, I need to hear now
from people who are
likely to buy the book. I do not seek a commitment (or money) now,
just an email saying
that you are likely to buy.

Families treated descend from 17th-18th century settlers from Maine to
Florida and in the
Caribbean and Bermuda. Once in America, the families mostly stayed
close to the east coast.
Heaviest concentrations are in New England, New York, Maryland,
Virginia, South Carolina
and Georgia.

The bulk of the book deals with ancestors of 34 settlers (or spouses
of settlers) who can be
called "major gateways" in that their ancestry is extensively traced
in Europe, with lines
going back to the 20th generation and beyond. This book has more about
the ancestors of
most of these "gateways" than has ever been published before. The
ancestry is mostly
English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Dutch. There are about 15 descents
from King Edward
III of England and dozens from Edward I.

The 34 major gateways are:Col. Isaac Arnold (NY), Edward Brailsford
(SC), Capt. George
Brent (VA), Robert Brooke (MD), Mary (Baker) Brooke, Leonard Calvert
(MD),
Dr. Charles Carroll (MD), Elizabeth (Stoughton, Scudder) Chamberlayne
(MASS),
Anne (Fiske) Chickering (MASS), Henry Corbin (VA), Alice (Eltonhead)
Corbin
(VA), John Craycroft (MD), Col. Robert Gibbes (Barbados, children to
SC), Mary (Coventry)
Gibbes (ditto), Anna Maria (Mainwaring) Gill (MD), Ann (Lovelace)
Gorsuch (VA), William
Ironmonger (VA), Major Thomas Lawrence (NY), Col. Thomas Ligon (VA),
Jane Lowe, Lady
Baltimore (MD), Alexander Magruder (MD), Capt. Horatio Mallory
(Bermuda), Capt. James
Neale (MD), Elziabeth (Freeman) Pettus (VA), Deacon Edward Rainsford
(MASS), Amthony
Savage (VA), Henry Sewall (MD), Mary (Launce) Sherman (CONN, MASS),
Major Lawrence
Smith (VA), Col. William Travers (VA), Henry Tucker (Bermuda), Richard
Wigg (SC),
Leighton Wilson (SC, GA), and Robert Yonge (SC).

Other settlers whose ancestry is extensively traced in Europe include
Michael Bacon (MASS),
William Chandler (MASS), Capt. Thomas Clagett (MD), Col. William
Fitzhugh (VA), Henry
Wolcott (MASS, CONN), and many others.

Please email bclagett@cov.com if you are likely to buy this book.

Thank you, Brice, for this interesting and welcome news.

Since you have made the announcement in a perfectly dignified and
appropriate way, providing information and not salesmanship, I don't
see how anyone could sensibly object (not that that ever stopped the
senseless brigade here....).

Your previous message was indeed very misleading, Brice.

The one below also has many lacunae.

Who is publishing the book -- how large and well-appointed will it be, are
there illustrations, maps, wills, other documents, etc., how will it be
bound -- and what is the anticipated price?

C'mon, Brice, you're a lawyer -- you know how to write a more cogent brief
than this. <g>
