Back in the early 80s I used a DOS based general word processing program for recording the names and family stories as I collected them. Then sometime in the late 80s I picked up a DOS based genealogy program from Radio Shack... can't remember the name. I took over my mom's side of the family tree back in 1986 when my cousin turned it over to me so that he could work on his mother's side and I agreed to work on mom's dad's (LINDER, Bavaria and Baden) side. Then in 1986 I switched to the DOS based MultiMate because my cousin shared his research with me. My cousin loved MultiMate back then and still does. He says that nothing else does what that does. Before long, I was spending lots of time after work down at the Philadelphia (PA, USA) Branch of the National Archives. I switched to Family Origins when I switched to a later version of Windows Then a few of my cousins switched to Family Tree Maker and I tried that one too. Then, a few of my cousins switched back to Family Origins, which later became Roots Magic. So I'm covered that way.
For now, some of my cousins use PAF and some use Roots Magic.
I'll have to look at Legacy and see how that works. Thanks again for sharing.
Later,
Dolores

I recommend Legacy at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/. The basic
program is free, with a deluxe version available for $30. It is
updated frequently, support is swift, responsive, and helpful.
