Gospatric of Samlesbury

Robert:

Regret I cannot find any connection in my records with
the Cuerdale Family and specifically with Gospatric of
Samlesbury, his sons Roger, Richard, Alan, Uctredand
daughter (who married Geoffrey Buckley Dean of
Whalley), and grandchildren William and Elizabeth.

William (s) Roger (s) Gospatric Samlesbury married
Avina de Notton - had interest in Hawood property
1242/43 with John Hawood.

Gospatric's line ended with Samlesbury property held
by great grandaughter Cecily and husband John Ewyas of
Samlesbury, and then descended to Southworth Family.

I have already advised that Gospatric of Samlesbury
1145-1212 married the daughter of Swain (s) Leofwin of
Burnehull Hindley.

If Gospatric Samlesbury was initially part of the
Cuerdale family, is it not very strange that the
Samlesbury line has never crossed paths with no common
interest in church for at leat 4-6 generations.

Your ealiest Cuerdale (Gilbert) was born about the
same time as Gospatric Samlesbury, and yet his
children Adam, Alice, Alexander, and his grandchildren
Gilbert, Alexander, Alice are yet to be found in
Samlesbury records.

Farrer's record of heirs of Samlesbury and Keuersdale
possessing interest in properties (Over Darwen and
Little Pemberton) may be evidence of a connection. BUT
that is in the year 1310-1333 - that is 6-8
generations later than Gospatric.

Sincerely Yours,

Paul Bulkley

Paul,

Gospatric's father is given in various sources as Warin, Warenne or
Warine de Keuerdale. Perhaps one of the two Warins given land by Roger
de Poictou: Warin Bussel or Warin Banastre.
