On Leo's excellent web site here
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.ph ... 0&tree=LEO

we see John Ferrers given there with no dates, no parents
who m Anne Carleton given there as dau of Sir Dudley Carleton with no dates no wife no ancestors
and one daughter Dorothy Ferrers

citing Complete Peerage

Since this Dorothy Ferrers become the wife of Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Arran you'd think CP would have made a better attempt at a lineage but noooooooooo, another example of them mutilating and suppressing knowledge !

I shall now wave my magic wand and miraculously create not *only* nine of of her 16 great-great-grandparents, BUT in addition a royal lineage.

Voila.

Anne Carleton was the daughter of Sir Dudley Carleton, Knt of Imbercourt, Surrey
his will is dated 28 Feb 1653/4 and was proved 22 Mar 1654

Anne was his eldest co-heiress

Dudley in turn was the son of George Carleton, Esq of Holcombe, Oxfordshire (will dated 14 May 1627 proved 18 Apr 1628) by his wife Katherine Harrison

George in turn was the son of Anthony Carleton of Brightwell Baldwin, Oxfordshire by his wife Joyce (aka Jocosa) Goodwin, the sixth daughter of John Goodwin Esq of Winchedon, Bucks.

Anthony Carleton and Joyce were also the parents of *that* Sir Dudley Carleton, Knt in 1610, 1st Viscount Dorchester created 1628 who was born 10 Mar 1573 at Baldwin Brightwell and died 15 Feb 1631/2 and was buried on the 19th at St Paul's Chapel, Westerminster Abbey

This Viscount married twice. Firstly Anne Gerard co-heiress of her father, she ob 18 Apr 1627 and buried next to him. Her father being George Gerard second son of Sir William Gerard Knt of Dorney, Bucks by his wife Elizabeth Rowe dau of Sir Thomas Rowe Lord Mayor of London in 1568, Thomas d 2 Sep 1570

Sir Thomas Rowe's wife Mary Gresham had a known lineage as well

Meanwhile Sir William Gerard was son of Sir William Gerard Lord Mayor of London in 1555 who d 27 Sep 1571

Sir Dudley Carleton's second wife was, none other than that intrepid woman who *sent* me on this quest into blackness herself Anne Glemham eldest daughter born at Sackville House 8 Feb 1589 died 10 Jan 1639, daughter of Sir Henry Glemham Knt of Little Glemham, Suffolk by his wife Anne Sackville eldest daughter of Thomas Sackville Baron Buckhurst cr 1568 1st Earl of Dorset cr 1604 Thomas died 19 Apr 1608 Whitehall his wife being Cecily Baker dau of Sir John Baker of the Privy Council of Henry 8, Edward 6, Mary AND Elizabeth the scamp!

Obviously Sir John Baker knew how to roll with the punches!

This Anne Glemham was previously married to Paul 1st Viscount Bayning bap 28 Apr 1588 St Olave's, London who d 29 Jul 1629 in London

It's mind boggling isn't it.

Meanwhile, back in the bat cave

John Ferrers who no ordinary John Ferrers but rather John Ferrers Esq of Tamworth and Walton born 1629 died 14 Aug 1680 son of Humphrey Ferrers of Tamworth by his wife Anne Packington

John thus descends not only from the Caves and Smiths about whom I've gone on and on ad nauseum in the past but also in 16 steps from Edward I

I tend to ramble don't I

Isn't it standard CP practice to name only the peer's wife's (1)
father; (2) mother; and (3) maternal grandfather? Looks like that's
just what they did.
