for Echyngham and Wolverton researhers this might be
of interest for early William Echyngham

Descendants of Ala
Generation No. 1
1. ALA3 (HOMO SON OF2 MEINFLIN, MEINFELIN1) She
married WILLIAM ECHYNGHAM.
Notes for ALA:
Land in Padbury, Buckinghamshire was given as part of
wedding dowrey. This land is found still in the family
at
the time of James Echyngham in 1346 and James holding
1/2 a fee in Padubry with John son of John de
Wolverton holding the overlordship(Feudal Aids v l p
125) .
Ala was given in marriage to William de Echyngham with
a moiety of the manor of Padbury and she later gave
her moiety to the advowson of the church to Bradwell
Priory. Ref: G R Elvey "Luffield Priory Charters" part
II
publish by the Buckinghamshire and Northhamptonshir
records societies 1975 p xlii
The descent of the Wolvertons is found in VCR
Northants v 5 page 422 in the discussion on wick Hamon
If the mill in Padbury it was probably part of the
marriage portion of Ala (Emma or Alice???) daughter of
Hamo
(d 1185) son of Meinfelin and Amable, Daughter of
William Mauduit II, the ancestors of the Wolverton
family.
Ala's brother, Hamo was aged 20 when his father died
and in the king's wardship. He is described in the
Rotuli
Dominabus (p 39) as being of the progeny of the earl
of Warenne through his father and grandson of William
Mauduit, through his mother.
