On Leo's excellent site here
http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.ph ... 4&tree=LEO

we see Henry Bowyer who married Anne Salter
Henry died 27 Dec 1613, he was the son of William Bowyer
Henry was also the father of William Bowyer, 1st Bart of Denham Court

Now for the rest of the story.

Item 1 below is their marriage settlement and exemplification of
recovery. Am I correct in thinking the exemplification means they've
now married? Not sure what an exemplification of recovery is.

This tells us information additional to what Leo has as follows:
A) Mary the wife of William was yet living
B) Henry was their "elder" son
C) Anne Salter's father Nicholas was an Esq and of London
D) Nicholas Salter was yet living
E) Their was a Robert Bowyer, 2nd son of Sir William who got the
remainder
F) Anne Bowyer gets no life interest (Nice! If he dies, you're OUT
babe, see ya!)
G) There was a Robert Bowyer, ESQ, one of the demandents called
"citizen and grocer of London" and later called "Esq". Seems likely
to be a *brother* to William as opposed to the younger son.

Item 2 below is *possibly* how they got Denham Place in the first
place, although they may have been living there previously.

This tells us information additional to what Leo has as follows:
H) William Bowyer and his wife Mary were already married by 7 Jul 1585
I) William Bowyer was already an adult by this same date
J) He had a brother Robert Bowyer, then living, a Merchant of London
K) William is not yet an Esq nor a Knt

Item 3 below is a surrender of copyhold land to William and Mary.
This tells us
L) William is now an ESQ but not yet a KNT. This leads to the
possibility that he was one of those Knighted by James when he came
south.

Stirnet happily reports
http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/briti ... 1.htm#dau1
that William Bowyer did indeed have a brother
Robert Bowyer of London, grocer who married
Margaret Cordall having at least five sons

Stirnet also reports that this second son Robert mentioned above
is that one who married Elizabeth Buggins of London
having at least nine children.

Stirnet calls this second son "Robert Bowyer of HUNTSMORE" which is
very useful in finding that he is that same "Father Bowyer" referred
to often in Samuel Pepys Diaries, or at least he has been so
identified
http://www.pepysdiary.com/p/521.php

This Robert Bowyer of Huntsmore is given, without underlying source,
in an annotation by a modern contributor, dates of 1594-1664 with the
additional statement that he died accidentally from drowning, that
Huntsmore is "near Iver, Bucks". The modern annotation says he
married MARY Buggins but this is probably not the case as his marriage
is in the extracted IGI stating

(For marriage see
http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch M001411)
Robert Bower to ELIZABETH Buggins 25 Aug 1623 at Saint James,
Clerkenwell, London

which at least accords with the further statement that his "eldest
surviving son" William was born in 1624 and died 1694 unmarried.

Comments and extensions appreciated.
