Has anyone ever heard of John le Smythe and/or Richard le Dykare who represented Chard, Somerset in Parliament, 1327-8? A google search informs me that Dykare is Old English for a person that digs ditches or lives by a dike. Was there a dike near Chard? Anyn help would be truly appreciated.

Some miles north of Chard there are the Somerset Levels which are
drained by dykes however in Somerset they are known as rhines
(pronounced reens).

Chard is on higher ground but there is a small stream which runs along
the main street.

There are a lot of farms where ditches might have been dug I suppose.
