Arms for Stafford families of Derbyshire

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can shed more light on the assignment of arms to
Stafford families from Eyam and Botham in Derbyshire. In his articles
published in DAJ Bowles states the arms for Eyam Staffords to be: Or,
a chevron gul between three martlets sable and for Botham Staffords to
be: Or, a chevron gul between three martlets sable with the chevron
charged with a mullet for a difference.
However, Wolley states the arms for Eyam Staffords are Ermine, on a
bend gules, 3 plates.

The quartered arms of the Eyre family that married into the Eyam
Staffords carries the arms as described by Wolley (Eyres of Hassop
Hall) and as described by Bowles for Eyres of Highlow Hall.

TIA,

JS
