The one bapt. 1611 must be her aunt of the same name; the aunt was
buried 19 May 1614 (see the archives). This would be a correction to
the ODNB.

Re: Clues from Lists-Indexes, vol. 39 (Chancery Proc., Bridg
This good discussion by "Susan" was posted in April ...
This newbie post is in regard to the Dorothea Scott who married Daniel
Gotherson. I have long been frustrated with what I see as an
impossible or highly improbable chronology that shows Dorothy Scott's
birth as 1611, given the range of her children's births as being in
the 1650's.
A number of on-line sites have listed her christening as 22 Sep 1611
and show her as the daughter of Thomas Scott and Mary Knatchbull. The
information I currently have on the birth dates of the five children
from Dorothy Scott's marriage to Daniel Gotherson ranging from abt
1650 to 13 Jul 1661 have made me seriously question this birth date. A
birth date of 1611 would make her seven years older than her husband
and not having children until she was almost forty and continuing
until she was fifty. An earlier post on this site for the 1619
visitation of Scotts of Scott Hall do not show a daughter, Dorothea
from the marriage of Thomas Scott and Mary Knatchbull, but does show
other daughters.
I found an extensive on-line site by Bruce Despain, concerning the
various Scott families.
http://userpages.burgoyne.com/bdespain/ ... ne-642.htm
that seems to have information that may correct her 1611 birth and
show her as grandchild of Thomas Scott and Mary Knatchbull, daughter
of his son Thomas Scott and Judith Thomson with a christening of 30
Jan 1628/9 at St. Alphaege Canterbury.
This site also shows a burial [apparently at Godmersham-JB] for a
Doryty (sic), dau of the elder Mr. Thomas Scott on 19 May 1614. Mr.
Despain's position is that earlierbooks published in the late 1800's
confused the aunt Dorothy who was
born in 1611 with her niece baptised in 1628/9. If it is the
auntDorothy Scott born in 1611 and buried 19 May 1614, then it makes
sense that the visitation of 1619 would not show a living Dorothy
Scott. Mr. Despain shows the marriage of Thomas Scott the son to
Judith Thomson, daughter of Henry Thomson and Dorothy Honywood as 5
Oct 1626 Lenham, Kent, England. I have also seen a number of on-line
sites that show the Thomas Scott who married Judith Thomson as dsp,
but without a reference that I can find. but I saw three children born
to the
marriage Charles who was born and died 1627, buried 19 Dec 1627 St
Alphage, Kent, Dorothea Scott christened 30 Jan 1628/9 and a Thomas
Scott born in May of 1632 a few months after his father's death in Jan
of 1632, but this posthumous son only living a few years (buried 12
Jan 1635/6 St. Alphage, Kent). This Dorothea Scott who married Major
Daniel Gotherson on 24 Jun 1649/50 St Bartholomew-the-Less, London,
England and then having at least five children in the 1650's.
This would all seem to make the chronology and inheritance of Egerton
property make much more sense. Could any of those with interest in
theScott family please comment on this? Has Mr. Despain provided
sufficient information that would correct the earlier birth date and
parentage for Dorothea Scott Gotherson?
Mr. Despain kindly gave me permission to include this information from
his site for this post.

Notice the 1629 marriage license for Thomas Paramor, widower, aged 44,
and Jane Scott, spinster, aged 30 ...
http://books.google.com/books?id=irgEAA ... 22+paramor
I wonder if this wouldn't be one of those rare (supposedly *illegal*)
examples of marriage to the sister of a deceased first wife: remember
that widow Mary Scott of Godmersham was suing Anne (Scott) Paramore,
and we see in the 1619 Kent Visitation (p. 128) that Anne was a
daughter of the second marriage, while there had been an older half-
sister Jane by their father's first marriage ...

For more information on Daniel Gotherson than is provided by Scull,
see two very interesting Interregnum sources:
--_Calendar of the Proceedings of the Committee for Advance of Money,
1642-1656_.
--_Calendar of the Proceedings of the Committee for Compounding, &c.,
1643-1660_.
There is also a bit more in the _State Papers, Domestic Series_.
Gotherson fell out of favor and was removed from his official duties
at some point during the Interregnum under accusations of showing
favoritism to wealthy Royalists.

This is a strictly accurate statement, as far as I can tell.

Ann Scott's husband was Henry (not Thomas) Paramour ...
http://books.google.com/books?id=9NYEAA ... %22&pgis=1
I'm still guessing the older half-sister, Jane Scott, was the one
married to Thomas Paramour (and died before her father).

Oh, I see what's going on: everything between the words "viz" and
"[Sir Thomas] Wiatt" is Dorothea's grandfather's statement, which he
made in 1630.

Ha, ha. Too funny (... but keep your day job).
Leslie, you of all people should realize that there's usually some
valid connection in most of the clues I post from Lists & Indexes. I
don't see why these posting bother people. I'm just pointing out
things that could be potentially useful.
And you're wrong about the Brandon clues. The name was originally
Brannan, and was Scots-Irish (they changed it in Virginia about 1750).

Not really. Didn't I say they changed the name "in Virginia about
1750"? Stop being a pill.
I certainly won't stop posting clues from _Lists and Indexes_ on your

John thanks so much for posting all these references, but could you
please tell me exactly where they are from as I didn't see the first
posting you made. Is this from the LDS in SLC?

There is a series called "Lists and Indexes," which is available in
many academic libraries.

Leslie, you of all people should realize that there's usually some
valid connection in most of the clues I post from Lists & Indexes. I
don't see why these posting bother people. I'm just pointing out
things that could be potentially useful.
There may be a connection.
But some are already in print, like the following item,
which was noticed by Walter Goodwin Davis:
--Kirke, Susannah, widow
--Martin, Samuel, Phoebe his wife, and others
--1682; London; personal estate of William Bisbey
And theres the next, about Mauleverer.
The family already has a documented royal descent.
Is the lawsuit really going to provide anything new & substantial?
--Ingleby, Sir John, bart, and Dame Margaret, widow
--Mauleverer, Timothy, and another
--1692; Manston manor, Yorks.

Brannan, and was Scots-Irish (they changed it in Virginia about 1750).

If you were as smart as you say you are,
you would realize that none of your supposed clues has
turned into anything big.
Some of them are supposedly about your own ancestors,
but you dont have enough money to hire a researcher to
look at the records.

Well, the thing showing the association between Gotherson and Bragg
was pretty nifty, as it confirmed the royal descent of Dorothea Scott
Gotherson.
I was also pleased at the confirmations of the Mayne-Harrison
relationships behind Willing of Philadelphia.
The last time you found anything that big or interesting was ...
uh ... Samuel Levis? Probably you'll never top that.
Oh yes, you know every ones motivations.

Shows how smart you are -- thinking Peter Stewart is some great

The kind of failure - constant, evidently demoralising - that leads to
risible declarations that such isolated & footling "successes" amount
to real achievement.
I don't know what you're carrying on about, but I'm positive a number
of FASGs would have given their eye teeth to have stumbled across
1) proof of the royal descent of Dorothea Scott Gotherson.
2) the likelihood of gentry ancestry for the Willings of
Pennsylvania.
3) corroborating details of the Hasilrige connection for Henley of
Massachusetts and Tennessee.
4) the gentry ancestry of Mrs. Jane (Greene) Poole of Massachusetts.
5) the Hawtrey and Ward connection of the Rawsons of Massachusetts
(Leslie Mahler was so impressed with this item that he told me he was
writing an article for TAG on it).
So I have actually discovered a quite large number of good things (of
course, no lines of descent from Charlotte of Cumberland; but then,
most Americans simply do not have these sorts of lines).
So you really *do not* know what you're talking about in terms of the
value of my findings to Americans.
If you seriously propose that this meagre record gives you a right to
slander Leslie Mahler and others, who have earned respect from the
genealogical community in the USA and beyond, you are pitifully deceived.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. I still repeat: you *do not* have any
idea what you are talking about. These items of mine are all better
than anything Leslie has published (with the single exception of
Levis, which was quite good).
I don't believe he will ever do better than that article (his first).
Nowhere to go but down. He he.

He he.
Oh, of course. So you are not a failed & desperately rancorous wannabe after
all, but in fact you are the wind - the fetid hot air, that is - beneath the
wings of all those pesky plagiarists whom the Fellows of the American
Society of Genealogists have elected to their number while overlooking your
own far superior claims as a chaser - if not analyst, that is - of
novelties....And what could I know about this when the FASGs have repeatedly
got it all so egregiously wrong?

Huh? I have no desire to be a FASG, and would certainly refuse "the
honor" (laugh) if it was even offered. It's one of the silliest, most
reactionary things about genealogy in America today. It reminds me of
those tacky clubs supposedly exclusive girls used to form in high
school; at mine (Dreher High in Columbia, SC) there was LTA ("Les
trente amies" [sp?]), limited to 30 of the most stuck-up, social-
climbing girls. The FAGS are a glorified LTA in my view.

"Les Coquettes" sucked majorly as well ...
"Betty is a lovely and popular member of the younger society set of
Columbia and is the winner of many ribbons in our local horse shows.
She attended Dreher High and was graduated from Davis High School.
This bride-elect was a charter member of Les Trente Amies and belonged
to Les Coquettes. Betty's mother is the former Edith Sanborn of
Massachusetts."

Butt out. Just because you see a few words of French in a posting
