OT - can you help with a quote?

To the Prince de Lampedusa, in his famous book, is ascribed a quote, roughly, "the more things change the more they remain the same".

Can anyone tell what the proper quote is?

With many thanks.

Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (December 23, 1896 - July 23, 1957), in
his novel Il Gattopardo, the Sicilian nobleman Don Fabrizio Corbera,
Prince of Salina says, "Unless we ourselves take a hand now, they'll
foist a republic on us. If we want things to stay as they are, things
will have to change."

In Italian, " Se vogliamo che tutto rimanga come è, bisogna che tutto
cambi "

The source of the quote as you have it is not the Prince but the
French novelist and editor Alphonse Karr (1808-90) in the journal "Les
Guêpes".

"plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose"
