Is anyone familiar with the Rishton family of Almodington manor, Earnley,
west Sussex? The tidbits of information I've encountered suggest they held
Almodington only a few generations: "The demesne lands of the manor,
however, had been demised by the earl [of Arundel] in 1558 to Robert Tyll,
whose daughter married William Rishton, who died in 1583. (fn. 45) His son
Robert died in 1623, holding these lands and Lee Park in Almodington, (fn.
46) and part of the estate passed with his daughter Catherine in marriage to
Richard Taylor, who died in 1633. (fn. 47) On the death of his grandson John
Taylor in 1700 this estate was sold to Sir Edward Turnour (fn. 48) and
descended to Earl Winterton." From: 'Earnley', A History of the County of
Sussex: Volume 4: The Rape of Chichester (1953), pp. 201-03." (

June 2007).

The William Rishton mentioned above may also have had a son named William
who predeceased Robert and who made a will 20 March 1664/5. I also find
mentions of a Mary Rishton of Chichester, widow of one of these William
Rishtons (West Sussex Rec. Offc.), but haven't managed to run into enough
information to piece these fragments together.

I'm looking for the line of a William Rishton of Almodington whose daughter
Joan married (in 1592?) 1) Edward Barlow, Burgess of Southampton 1593,
Sheriff 1605, and 2) John Elseye.
