I know that we have discussed the Pierleoni before - more than once. I have pulled together what I have been able to find, and posted it at :
http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/gKiBRtVsk- ... basics.doc. Or, just go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StoriaItaliana/files/, and choose, (if it can be called a choice), Pierleoni basics.doc. What I could not dig up was the discussion of the origins of Hildebrand in _Popes from the Ghetto_. Any comments and/or additions are sought, and greatly welcome.
Most of the subscriber to this/these list(s) have Anacletus as the br.-in-law of Roger II. I have seen too-many-to-count pieces calling his br.-in-law Roger I. Chronologically, II would be a better fit. But we have the I with a son, Giordano, by an unknown mother, against Giordano as a name in the family of Pierleoni.
Unfortunately, their is no descent from this Giordano d'Hauteville. But there may be, through the Orsini, (see the 'who was his mother?' thread.).
Yours in rooting,
Ford

I recall that Turton made Roger I marry the Pierleoni. However, the
woman he so identified was, in fact, not a Pierleoni at all but a
Princess of Leon.

Either there is or there isn't, and in this case it is the latter: no
recorded offspring of Roger I's son Giordano.
He was married in or shortly before February 1090, to a daughter of
Margrave Manfred I of Vasto, and died in 1092 after 26 April, perhaps
on 18 September. According to Geoffrey of Malaterra his father was
overcome with grief when he went to Syracuse to take Giordano's corpse
to Troina for burial, and even the Sarracens wept. It is hardly
credible that a pregnant widow or one with a baby would have been
totally disregarded in these circumstances, and that nothing definite
would be known of a dispossessed heir/ess to Giordano's lordship in
Noto and Syracuse.
