Hi,

I would like to include information from an E-Mail I have sent in
support of Their being a Daughter of Sir James Kennedy, of Dunure,
Younger and Lady Mary Stewart.

I believe that we can support that the Wife of Andrew Agnew of
Lochnaw, 1st Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway in 1451 was Mary Kennedy
the Daughter of Sir James Kennedy, of Dunure, Younger and Lady Mary
Stewart.

Most of this information was obtained from "The Book of the Hereditary
Sheriffs of Galloway" written by Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, 8th Bt,
1818-1892.

I find that the writer points out that in Galloway, Family History was
considered more reliable than mere genealogical records.

Sir Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, 8th Bt, 1818-1892, the Writer of
Hereditary Sheriffs of Galloway, their forebears & friends, their
courts & customs of their times with notes of the early history, had
at his command a mass of family papers systematically arranged and
examined at the time of writing. He also had access to the charter-
crests of many of his neighbors. He had a historical account of the
Kennedies from charters at Culzean, privately printed and given to him
by Lord David Kennedy.

See page 375 0f attached page from "The Book of the Agnews".

Mary Virginia Agnew, the writer of "The Book of the Agnews" used the
First Edition (1863) of the Book of the Hereditary Sheriffs of
Galloway to gather information as the the person's of the generations
of the "Hereditary Sheriffs of Galloway" beginning with Andrew Agnew,
the First Hereditary Sheriff of Galloway, who married Lady Mary
Kennedy, the daughter of the Princess Mary and Sir James Kennedy of
Dunure as she so stated on page 376 of the "Book of the Agnews".

The wife of Andrew Agnew is identified as Mary Kennedy, Daughter of
Lady Mary and Sir James on pages 393, 436.

An Article from THE AMERICAN WEEKLY MERCURY, No 188. From Thursday,
July 18th, to Thursday, July 26th 1723 P. 81/-New York, July 22 as
printed on pgs 437 and 438 of the "Book of the Agnews" lists the name
as Mary (Lady) Kennedy as the wife of Andrew Agnew, 1st Sheriff and
daughter of Princess Mary and Sir James Kennedy.

I am attaching copies of pages from the book of the Agnews.

I have not completely looked through the 1893 Edition for the first
name of wife of Andrew Agnew the 1st sheriff but you saw that she was
identified several times as the Daughter of Lady Mary Stewart and Sir
James Kennedy and the neice of Lady Margaret Stewart (Douglas).

I do hope that this will add to the proof of there being a daughter
born to Lady Mary Stewart and Sir James Kennedy and that that daughter
was named Mary Kennedy and was the wife of the 1st Sheriff of
Galloway, Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw.

The below is from an E-Mail sent to Darryl Lundy. I will attach all
pages sent to him.

I would like to attach a few pages copied from Two Books that lend
support for the wife of Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw1 (M) d. 1455, #121710
as being a daughter of

Sir James Kennedy of Dunure, younger1 (M)
b. before 1390, d. before 8 November 1408, #108224

And

Lady Mary Stewart1,2 (F)
b. before 1382, d. circa 1458, #105322

The first pages come from:

The Book of the Agnews, James Agnew of Pennsylvania, USA, 1926, By
Mary Virginia Agnew

The second group of pages come from:

The Hereditary Sheriffs of Galloway, 1893 by Sir Andrew Agnew of
Lochnaw,

These pages are where I got my information that I E-Mailed to you
that the wife of Andrew was this daughter of Sir James and Lady Mary.

As you can see she and her brothers were raised by their Grandfather,
Sir Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure and were said to be in the home of their
Aunt, Margaret Stewart, Lady of Galloway at Thrieve Castle in Galloway
very often and Andrew Agnew, was there often as well.

In these pages we also find how Andrew Agnew, the first Sheriff of
Galloway, came to regain possession of Lochnaw Castle and the office
as Sheriff.

Please read and see how you might use this information as citation as
to Mary Kennedy being his wife and even existing as a daughter.

There is also information on one page as to the arrest of Mary
Kennedy's Brother, Sir John Kennedy who was stated as being the elder
and he would have been heir before Sir Gilbert Kennedy, 1st Lord
Kennedy if he had not died a prisioner (it is assumed that he died at
Sterling Castle).

Also the obvious conclusion would be that if there were a daughter
born to Sir James Kennedy and Lady Mary Stewart her name would be
Mary.

Thank you,
JiRobbi
