Hi Folks,
George E. Hodgdon's "Reminiscences and Genealogical Record of the
Vaughan Family of New Hampshire" (Rochester, NY, 1918) is available at
'books.google.com'.
About six years ago mrgifford posted an article which mentioned this
book and suggested a connection between William Vaughan of New
Hampshire (~1641-1719), and descendants of Roger Vaughan of Porthaml.
Since the article hinted at a proposed royal line as well as the
previously unknown (to me), English ancestry of William Vaughan, I was
surprised that it received no follow-up comments.

p.143 of Hodgdon's book presents an 'Outline Pedigree of William
Vaughan'. The comments in brackets are mine.

Sir Roger Vaughan = Gwladis Gamme [R.V. died at Agincourt in 1415,
tjd]
Sir Roger Vaughan =Dennis Vaughan [R.V. executed at Chepstow in 1471,
tjd]
Sir Roger Vaughan = Joanne Whitney [R.V. dead by 25 Sep. 1514 ; ?
Sir , tjd]
Watkin Vaughan = Jane Vaughan
Sir William Vaughan = Catherine Havard [W.V. dead by May of 1553,
tjd]
Sir Roger Vaughan = Catherine Herbert [R.V. dead by 31 March 1585,
tjd]
Roger Vaughan = Frances Somerset [R.V. dead by 1608]
Roger Vaughan = Ann de la Hay [R.V. will 1657, m. settlmt. 26 March
1608, tjd]
George Vaughan = Mary Boxall
William Vaughan = Margaret Cutts

The line from the 1st. Sir Roger down to the last Roger whose wife was
Anne Delahay, the daughter of Paul Delahay of Alltyrynys, excepting
spelling variations, is identical with my own findings.

However, the George Vaughan of South Harting (1615-1699) who married
Mary Boxall is not very likely to be the son of Roger Vaughan of
Talgarth and Trephilip.

[Tredegar Estate Papers; NLW]
1) In Aug. of 1638, Roger Vaughan of Trephillippe (sic) entered into a
transaction with William Morgan of Therowe (sic). [for Therowe etc.
read 'The Rhos', located about 2 kilometers southeast of Talgarth.
tjd]
2) In 1657, Roger Vaughan, Esq. of Trephillip, and Anne, his wife,
along with William Vaughan of Knighton, co. Rad. and Anne his wife are
again dealing with William Morgan of Therrow.
3) In April of 1660, George Vaughan of Pipton, co. Brec., Gent., and
his wife Elinor, and his brother William Vaughan of Talgarth and Anne,
his wife were involved in a sale of property to Blanch Morgan of
Therrow (sic). [Pipton is about 3 kilometer north of Talgarth. tjd]

All comments, and criticisms welcome.
Regards
Tom Dunn, Kilbrittain, Co. Cork, Ireland
