Vox populi, vox Dei
We need a simpleminded service, with a modicum of choice,
Said the Vicar and his wardens in a unity of voice;
It will bring the young folk running, and is surely bound to seize
The praise of all the county when they commemorate its ease.
'I agree', said Miss Quite-Rightly, with a fervent modern air,
'But we must ensure arguments for the Eucharistic prayer:
In Advent and first Sundays we employ the one called D,
(Though the blessed congregation think the chorus rather twee);
And I note in version A, as set for Ordinary Time,
That the Synod marked it optional; omitting it is fine;
And the same thing goes for F, said in Epiphany I guess
(Which used to be a Feats-day but is now a Season ('S')).
Alternatively B or C instead of D's OK
And option 'O' may star or go-so that's clear, anyway.'
They chorused their agreement, and they raised a corpulent grin
As they pondered the approval their silly plans would win.
And if the congregation said it didn't suit them quite,
They'd simply hold another vote, until they got it right.
O the joys of simple services and modern liturgy:
So clear, so bright, so black and white, compared with BCP.

I particularly like the phrase "said it didn't suit them quite," and
the clever rhyming of "D" with "rather twee."
I suppose this "really wasn't very nice" of me, so I'll throw in a
picture of my aunt and her husband (still can't find any pictures of
myself on the web; I'd share them if I could) ...

Yawn indeed. It would have taken Alexander Pope to enliven that sort
of vestry dithering to the level of poetry.
If you call me a "wannabe-troll," that means technically I'm not a
troll. Works for me ... =)
