Dear newsgroup,

In researching Agnes Beaumont, I find she is the daughter of Henry (de Newburgh) Beaumont (b. 1048 in Neunburg  Vorm Wald, Oberpfalz, Bavaria) and Margaret du Mortiagne Perche (b. Abt 1073 in Perche, Nogent-le-Rotrou, France).

I find the children as follows;

Henry de Beaumont         Abt 1093   Warwick, England
Agnes de Beaumont         Abt 1094  (Some say born 1108) Warwick, England
Geoffrey de Beaumont      Abt 1100     Warwick, England
Robert de Newburgh    Abt 1100      Warwick, England
Roger de Beaumont         Abt 1102      Warwick, England
Rotrude de Newburgh  Abt 1102      Warwick, England
Rotrou de Beaumont       Abt 1103      Normandy, France
Richard de Beaumont      Abt. 1104     Warwick, England
Margery de Beaumont     Abt. 1106     Warwick, England

Burke's Peerage 107th Edition  shows  Henry, Roger, Geoffrey, Robert de Newburgh, Rotrude de Newburgh as sons but lists two daus without naming them.

Ancestral Roots   151-25   List Margaret de Perche who married Henry de Beaumont, son of Roger de Beaumont and Avelina Meulent.

I have several citings of Agnes de Beaumont as the wife of Geoffrey de Clinton, b.Abt 1090 in Normandy, France with a projected marriage date of abt 1092 in Normandy, France with no source.  I have checked familysearch..org and find mixed results.

Can anyone verify the marriage of Agnes de Beaumont and Geoffrey de Clinton?

Thanks,
Jim Malone

Dear newsgroup,

In researching Agnes Beaumont, I find she is the daughter of Henry
(de Newburgh) Beaumont (b. 1048 in Neunburg Vorm Wald, Oberpfalz,
Bavaria)

The surname Newburgh comes from Le Neubourg near Rouen in Normandy, not from
Bavaria.

and Margaret du Mortiagne Perche (b. Abt 1073 in Perche, Nogent-le-Rotrou,
France).

What source have you found for Margaret's birthplace?

I find the children as follows;

Henry de Beaumont Abt 1093 Warwick, England
Agnes de Beaumont Abt 1094 (Some say born 1108) Warwick, England
Geoffrey de Beaumont Abt 1100 Warwick, England
Robert de Newburgh Abt 1100 Warwick, England
Roger de Beaumont Abt 1102 Warwick, England
Rotrude de Newburgh Abt 1102 Warwick, England
Rotrou de Beaumont Abt 1103 Normandy, France
Richard de Beaumont Abt. 1104 Warwick, England
Margery de Beaumont Abt. 1106 Warwick, England

It appears that the birthplaces fixed by your source/s are guesses - I don't
know why some genealogists feel compelled to provide such details that have
no basis in evidence, but it does suggest a reason to discard them or at
least consider them unreliable. In this case I recommend the former: the
list is wrong. Earl Henry's heir was Roger, born ca 1102, died 12 June 1153.
The younger sons of Henry and Margaret were Robert I, seigneur of Le
Neubourg, Rotrou, bishop of Evreux, Geoffrey and Henry.

Burke's Peerage 107th Edition shows Henry, Roger, Geoffrey, Robert
de Newburgh, Rotrude de Newburgh as sons but lists two daus without
naming them.

Rotrude (NB A female name) appears to be an invention, as perhaps are
Richard, Margery and Agnes.

Ancestral Roots 151-25 List Margaret de Perche who married Henry
de Beaumont, son of Roger de Beaumont and Avelina Meulent.

I have several citings of Agnes de Beaumont as the wife of Geoffrey
de Clinton, b.Abt 1090 in Normandy, France with a projected marriage
date of abt 1092 in Normandy, France with no source. I have checked
familysearch.org and find mixed results.

Can anyone verify the marriage of Agnes de Beaumont and Geoffrey de
Clinton?

The Agnes who married Geoffrey de Clinton was a daughter of Earl Roger (died
1153, as above), not his sister. Maybe this error has been repeated in
giving "Margery" as another sister, since Roger also had a daughter of this
name. Richard, however, is not a mistake in generations, as far as I know
the name did not occur in this family at all.

If you want to research this family from more reliable sources, I suggest
starting with the references given in CP and 'The Local Influence of the
Earls of Warwick, 1088-1242: a Study in Decline and Resourcefulness' by
David Crouch, _Midland History_ 21 (1996) - also note the articles by Rosie
Bevan in _Foundations_ 1 nos. 3 & 4 (2004) that have been cited here
recently.
