I'm guessing the mother Sarah was a daughter of Gifford Cogswell of
Ipswich ...

Presumably we can add Skipper Dodge to the list of royally-descended
folks who intermarried with descendants of Mr. John Gifford. Dodge
was a descendant of Rev. William Skipper, the rector of Thorpe by
Wainfleet, who later came to New England ...

(Dodge's line probably comes in through William Skipper's daughter who
married Walter Fairfield.)

The other Gifford descendants who married into royally-descended
families were

-- Margaret Cogswell (dau. John and Margaret), who married Moses
Hawkes, grandson of Moses Maverick.

-- my ancestor Ebenezer Hawkes (son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth
[Cogswell] Hawkes), who married Anna Breed, a descendant of Allen and
Mary (Sargent) Breed. Mary's father was Rev. William Sargent of
Malden and Barnstable, and was descended from the Giffords of Twyford/
Middle Claydon.

--my ancestor Amos Hawkes (son of Ebenezer and Anna above), who
married Deborah Flint, a descendant of Elias Maverick through the
Johnson and Flint families of Salem and Marblehead. This descent,
while not fully proved, seems likely to me from the Salem Church
records and Sidney Perley's History of Salem.
