Lewis Bagot, the eldest son and heir apparent of Walter Bagot of Blithfield by his wife Elizabeth Cave, in about 1610 was secretly carrying on with his first cousin Jane Skipwith, eldest daughter of Sir William Skipwith, Knt of Prestwold by *his* wife Margaret Cave.

Elizabeth and Margaret were sisters. Margaret had died in 1594 and Sir William Skipwith married, by 1610, to Jane Roberts, daughter of John Roberts, and widow of John Markham of Sedgebrook.

When Walter Bagot heard about his son and Jane, he wrote to his brother-in-law threatening to disinherit Lewis should he carry through. Jane Roberts also had a talk with her step-daughter. The betrothal was cancelled. Lewis Bagot died about six months later.
