St. George's Roll - inquiry about further information

Legg inn av Richard Bradley » 06 mai 2007 15:40:34

I have a question for the experts regarding the coats of arms in St. George's Roll. It is my understanding it was also known as "Charles' Roll". My particular concern is the "E" section which has a coat of arms dated 1405. However most references to "St. George's Roll" date the roll as 1285. Do the letters indicate a series over a number of generations?

Also, where would one find further information about an individual entry? The bearer of arms is given (in the online transcripts) but not his location, which is what I need to pinpoint his identity.

One published edition of the St George Roll (Armytage 1869 "Ancient
Rolls of Arms") called this the Charles Roll because he used the copy
made by Charles. The Charles Roll has about 300 coats in common with
it, but the two rolls are not related.

If you know the name or number of the entry which interests you,
please supply it.
