Patric Family of Patrixbourne Kent

Reference recent discussion in connection with Mabel
wife of Nigel de Mowbray.

Douglas Richardson's quoted source "Patrick Family of
Patrixbourne Kent" was Mary Berg (Archaeological
Cantiana) With due respect to Mary Berg, the inference
that the information provided is sound is misleading.

I communicated with Mary Berg regarding some of her
Patric Family data, and she admitted that she could
not vouch for the information. Her specialised
interest was ancient churches.

Unfortunately I have no Patric information with me
(stored in England). My rusty memory tells me that
there was a Mabel Patric, daughter of a Patrixbourne
Patric, who married William Mandeville (Essex)
Mandeville died 1191 (Doreset/Devon)

Mabel now widow successfully defended presumably an
adult daughter of a claim of marriage and property -
(the daughter was already married). This would suggest
that this Mabel was not likely to be the wife of Nigel
de Mowbray.

A matter of some significance is that the Patric seal
and the Mandeville seal are very similar perhaps
suggesting some kind of connection between the two
families.

There were a number of William Patrics between 1060
and 1160 - possibly Mabel wife of Nigel de Mowbray was
the daughter of another William.

Sincerely Yours,

Paul Bulkley
