Dear fellow posters,
About a week ago I purchased a download option
for 56 days from the A2A site for 3.50 pounds sterling (6 dollars 79 cents
American) on the will of Robert Whitney, Gentleman, of Thetford, Norfolk. Do You
have to have Broadband to properly view said document ? At any rate, whether
or not He connects to John Whitney of Massachusetts He was a rather
interesting fellow. He was involved in some manner with Thomas, 4th Duke of Norfolk,
Philip, Earl of Arundel, and Henry, Earl of Surrey (? a father, son, grandson
group), Sir Roger Townshend, Robert Buxton and William Dyx Esq in law suits from
Reynold Heigate involving possession of marsh lands in the 1580s and in
1590/1 (with his widow Janet, by then wife of a Mr Somerset being sued in 1591 by
Sir Edward Clere, kt. of Blickling who was trying to gain title to a variety
of manors including Thetford, Walwick and Elvendon with church advowsons , et
cetera as He was selling his manor and was probably trying to get a better
price for it. Sir Edward , incidently was a relative of Queen Elizabeth I through
his ancestress Alice Clere (nee Boleyn, a daughter of Sir Thomas Boleyn and
Anne Hoo.)
Sincerely,
James W Cummings

I doubt think Broadband is essential - it just makes the download
quicker. The resultant PDF document can also be saved onto your hard-
drive for easier access.

Paul Reed (TAG, 69, p 9 et seq) calls him son of Nicholas Whitney of
Saffron Walden, Essex, and states he was MP for Thetford in 1584. No
doubt the relevant volume of the History of Parliament (1558-1603,
Hasler et al) will give further particulars. There was a Thomas
Whitney of Saffron Walden whose will was proved at the PCC in 1602 and
who is likely a relation.

Cheers, Michael
