Queen Elizabeth I
Elizabeth was obviously an excellent leader of England throughout her
forty five year reign. I believe her success was due largely in part
to her political astuteness. What are some other characteristics that
helped Elizabeth transform England?

Speaking of Elizabeth I, did anyone notice Greenway's
column in the NY Times one month ago that claimed
she was "aunt" of her successor, King James I ?
I sent in a correction but AFAIK they didn't print it.
I think Elizabeth was James' double 1st cousin,
twice removed. Right?

Now this is more Reny's level -- grading a child's essay on Eliz. I.

She took religion lightly. And she was frugal (she didn't bankrupt
the country like some others before her).

She took religion lightly.
True. Her only religion was her crown, and it served her well.
She also had an advantage, strangely enough, being a woman. She was
constantly being wooed by kings and princes, which prohibited them
from warring with England. It wouldn't have been polite.

But she did use her future possible marital status as a policy of

Well no.
Elizabeth burned no heretics.
Any priests she killed she killed for treason.
What is known as 'The Elizabethan Compromise' with regard to religion in
the UK has held, with a hiccup in Stewart times, until today.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
