The direct paternal line ancestor of the present Sir Martin Armytage,
9th Baronet, of Kirklees, was Edward Armytage of Keresforth Hill,
Yorks., younger brother of John Armytage of Kirklees (d. 1650), High
Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1614. Edward's great-grandson Samuel Armytage
(1695-1747) inherited Kirklees at the death of the 7th Baronet in
1737, then the following year was created a Baronet in his own right.
It was Edward's second son, the 3rd Baronet, who married into the
Edward III bloodline when he took Anna Maria, the eldest daughter of
Godfrey Wentworth of Woolley Park, as his wife. Their eldest son, the
4th Baronet (A14 below) continued the Armytage line of Baronets, and
his descendants are well covered in the peerage works. Their 3rd and
youngest son, Godfrey Wentworth Armytage (1773-1834), inherited the
Woolley estates per the will of his grandfather, and took the surname
of Wentworth.

Through the Wentworths of Woolley (a younger branch of the Wentworths
of Wentworth-Woodhouse), the 4th Baronet has fewer descents from
Edward III than the previous Armytage of Kirklees line. The four from
Joan Beaufort are given below. At least one Wentworth of Woolley (a
grandson of A10 below) emigrated to America - Michael Wentworth
(baptized at All Saints, Wakefield 8 April 1724; died in New York 25
September 1795), a Captain in the Foot Guards who fought at the Battle
of Culloden, then moved to New Hampshire, where he married Martha
Hilton (d. 1805), widow of Governor Benning Wentworth, and with her
entertained George Washington at the Wentworth mansion in Portsmouth
in 1789.
