gilbert de gaunt 1180-1242

I am wondering if anyone can clarify the wife of this man.
Several sources give him 2 wives, Hawise de Romare and Rohese / Rohaise de
Clare. Most say his 2nd wife was Hawise.
However other sources only mention Hawise.
I'd be very happy if I can clarify this information
Thanks
Louise

You have the dates wrong:

Gilbert de Gant who married Rohese de Clare was born ca 1120 and died in
1156. He was created earl of Lincoln by King Stephen ca 1147.

Another Gilbert de Gant, nephew of the man above, died in shortly before 22
January 1242. He used the title "earl of Lincoln" but this was not
officially recognised.

I don't know if a wife is recorded, CP does not give any name. Assuming he
had one, I would be surprised if she was really called "de Roumare" - this
was an earlier family of earls of Lincoln.

Thanks Peter,
I did put the wrong person in-sorry-so many Gilberts.
I have Gilbert de Gaunt, son of Walter b.c. 1120-1156 I couldn't find any
reference to Rohaise except in some family files and some actually call her
Rohaise or Hawise!
So if it was Rohaise then the following is incorrect?? I realised that the
part of taking title of earl through her was wrong - as you say Stephen
created him earl after the 1st battle of Lincoln.

A History of the County of Huntingdonshire: Volume 2; Parishes: Fen Stanton
(British History online) where it states in part:
....Walter ( d.1139) from whom the manor descended to Gilbert, his son, who
married Hawise, daughter and heir of William de Romare, earl of Lincoln,
and through her took the title of Earl.

The next Gilbert 1118-1242 was son of his brother Robert and there is no
name for his wife. He fought ta the 1st Baron's War He had 3 children
including another Gilbert-so it can all be rather confusing

Let's go for some happiness:

CP (Complete Peerage) VII, 675 says his wife was unknown. For his birth
it says he came of age about 1401 which roughly confirms your birth
year. For his death it says he died shortly before 22 Jan 1241/2 which
is not a million miles away from your figure.

Rohese de Clare is given (p. 672) as the wife of this Gilbert's uncle,
another Gilbert de Gant, earl of Lincoln. There is no Hawise de Roumare
that I have found, though there was a Havice de Riviers who m. William
de Roumare, first earl of Lincoln, and she might have been known as
Hawise de Roumare, though CP quotes one charter where she was named as
"Hadewysia comitissa de Rumara".

There are no corrections to the above in CP Vol XIV nor on Chris
Phillips' CP Corrections site.

Havard

Havard - brought to Wales when Bernard de Neufmarche gave the manor of
Pontwilyn to Sir Walter Havard, recorded by historians as Walter Havre de
Grace

Can anyone tell me about Sir Walter Havard family or anything about him
