Who was Margaret Boynton (nee Conyers) ?

Dear Brad and Leo,
In the Curfman article "The Yorkshire Background
of the Boyntons of Rowley" the Author says that Sir Thomas Boynton who died
1403 married first Margaret Conyers died 1402, sister of John Conyers mentioned
in her husband`s will of 2 July 1402 as her brother. He apparently married in
1402/3 just prior to his death Margaret, daughter of John Speeton and was
father by Margaret Conyers of Sir Henry Boynton and Sir Christopher Boynton from
whom Henry Boynton of Sedbury descends as perhaps do John and William
Boynton of Rowley, Massachusetts. On the north side of the chancel in a modern
recess lies a recumbunt female effigy which is supposed to represent Margaret
Boynton (nee Conyers) at the top on cushions lie shields , the upper cushion has
three,Two are Boynton, the third Conyers, the lower cushion has four shields
1st one with a star of six points, the 2nd three roundels between two bends ,
third a saltire , fourth a Boynton with a label of three points. Any ideas as
to who She could be ? One M. Delano Warner has suggested she was daughter
of Christopher Conyers and Anne Markenfield who was previously married without
issue to John Normanville.
Sincerely,
James W Cummings

The c.1480 pedigree of Boynton does not name a wife for Sir Thomas
Boynton, father of Sir Christopher Boynton of Sedbury. The editor, C.
Hunter Blair, states in a footnote that Thomas's will was proved 6
Sept. 1402, which wouldn't give him time to make a second marriage.

I am not strong with heraldry, but I notice that Sir Christopher
Boynton of Sedbury, the son of Sir Thomas, married -----, daughter of
----- Conyers of Ormsby (per the c.1480 pedigree). J.W. Clay, in his
1899 Additions to Dugdale's Visitation, says that she was Elizabeth,
daughter and coheir of Sir Robert Conyers of Ormsby.

Maybe the tomb was for Sir Christopher's wife, and not his mother?

One M. Delano Warner has suggested she was daughter
of Christopher Conyers and Anne Markenfield who was previously married without
issue to John Normanville.

It's not until the 1585 Visitation pedigree of Boynton of Barmston
that a wife for Sir Thomas Boynton is given: --------, daughter of Sir
William Normanvill, of Kilnwick. Dugdale's 1666 Visitation pedigree
of Boynton adds her first name, Isabel.

But 1585 is almost 200 years after Sir Thomas Boynton's death, so the
information has to be taken with a big grain of salt.

It's possible Sir Thomas was married twice, first to Isabel
Normanvill, and second to Margaret Speeton or Conyers (she could have
had a brother-in-law John Conyers, married to her sister)?

It seems like more evidence is needed. I don't pick up this family
until Christopher Boynton of Sedbury, grandson of the Sir Christopher
above, marries Agnes Scrope of Bolton, a descendant of Edward I.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, James.

Cheers, -------Brad
