Longueval Research to be Published Soon

For those of you who descend from Antoinette de Longueval, the mother of
Anne Couvent (the wife of Philippe Amyot and mother of Mathieu and
Charles Amyot), there will be a very important article published on her
ancestry in the Mémoires of the Société généalogique
canadienne-française by R.-Yves Gagné and his associate. The article
should appear in the April 2007 issue. This key article will present
the result of over a decade of research on the ancestry of Antoinette de
Longueval and provides another royal gateway for thousands of French
Canadians.

M. Gagné played a key role on the Baillon and Le Neuf research projects
which produced well documented royal lineages for many French Canadians.
He often publishes well researched articles in the Mémoires and is an
accomplished genealogist.

I understand that this article will present considerable new information
about not only Antoinette de Longueval, but also about the Couvents and
Amyots. M. Gagné tells me that he does not lay out a generation by
generation royal lineage, but he provides enough thoroughly documented
generations back to noble ancestors that can then be easily picked up
and traced in well researched standard publications back to a French
king and then to Charlemagne. I like this approach because it means
many of us can have the thrill of connecting the last few dots to
construct the royal lineage.

To order a copy of this issue, or better yet, to become a member of
Québec’s leading genealogical society, point your browser to

April is going to be a great month for a lot of French-Canadian
genealogists with the good fortune to descend from Antoinette de
Longueval. I thank M. Gagné and his colleague for this excellent gift.

When I receive my April issue of the Mémoires, I will post another message.

By the way, M. Gagné is now working on tracing the ancestry of Guillaume
Daoust. You can learn more about this project at
http://www.habitant.org/daoust/. Please keep in mind that doing
original research in France is expensive, so please consider
contributing to M. Gagné’s most recent project.
